Project NOAH

Project NOAH (Networked Organisms And Habitats) is an interactive field guide for “citizen scientists.” Help and get help IDing plants and animals by being part of an online community for sharing sightings and helping to identify plants and  animals, and to collect data from other “citizen scientists” about where species are located and their behavior. Find a creature in your back yard that you can’t ID? Take a photo and send it out for identification help.  Want to help the Ladybug project?  Count and describe ladybugs you fund and send in to The Lost Ladybug Project.  Live near the gulf coast?  Help document the effects of the oil spill.  See local postings and learn what your neighbors are finding, or look more globally.  Earn badges for your work! Note:  this is an online forum that does ask for sign-in, so it is something you will want to do together with your younger child.  Middle-schoolers can do by themselves, although as always, make sure to monitor.
