Sums Stacker

This is a strong math app for 1st-3rd graders, but really supports the child who needs additional time with learning basic addition facts. The challenge is to move around tiles in order to create the correct sum in each stack. What makes this better than a basic math fact review is its ability to help children conceptualize sums. The variety of value representation options (dice, Roman numerals, numbers written in Spanish, fingers, coins…) supports a wide array of learning styles. For the child who needs an additional incentive, you can race to see how quickly you can solve the problem. Difficulty is increased by leaving one of the sums unknown. In addition to the strong education value, we appreciate the nice graphics, not overbearing sound effects and the easy to use design. This app could also work for the advanced kindergartener.
