 Motion Math: Wings is another great app by Motion Math (see Motion Math, Zoom and Hungry Fish). These guys are really into doing it right – they focus on developing number sense, rather than just fact memorization. Wings is about improving mental multiplication and estimating. As your bird is flying you need to direct it quickly to fly over the biggest number. However, the numbers are represented in various ways – rows of dots, clusters of dots, “groups of” dots, a grid, a labelled grid and symbols (2 x 3) - and as you move up the levels, you will go from comparing 6 versus 8 dots (clustered) to symbols vs a grid, all the way to quickly identifying if 40 x 18 or 41 x 15 is greater. Just go ahead and buy all the levels at once. This app has a good shelf life and will grow with your kids/students.
